About the Alaskan Klee Kai
The Alaskan Klee Kai is a northern breed of dog in the spitz family. The term "Klee Kai" was derived from Eskimo words meaning "Small Dog". The breed was developed to be a companion sized version of the Siberian Husky. It resulted in an energetic, intelligent, apartment-sized dog with an appearance that reflects its northern heritage.

The breed was developed in the mid-1970s by Linda Spurlin in Wasilla, Alaska when she observed the result of the mating of an Alaska Husky and a small dog. It was originally called the "Klee Kai". then the breed split into the Alaskan Klee Kaiand Klee Kai for political reasons. The breed consolidated under the new name in 2002.
