About the American Eskimo
The American Eskimo Dog is a breed of companion dog originating in the United States in the twentieth century. The breed was formerly known as German Spitz or an "American Eskimo Spitz". They are a member of the Spitz family of dogs. They are great circus performers and the first dog to walk a tightrope was an American Eskimo.

The American Eskimos are bred to be companion dogs. They like being a part of their human family. Eskies love families, are easily trained and very intelligent, as well as being stong willed and independent. They make great watchdogs and bark to announce strangers. They are very protective of their home and family.

Eskies live an average of 13 years although some have been known to live 20 years or longer. They are derived from the German Spitz, the Finnish Spitz, the Pomeranian,the Keeshond and maybe the Samoyed.
