About the American Foxhound
The American Foxhound is a breed of dog that is a cousin to the English Foxhound. They are bred to hunt by scent and often referred to as scent hounds. The American Foxhound is a loyal, sweet, kind and loving dog at home. If it is hunting it is a warrior. When the scent is found it will follow it, ignoring commands. If you live in the country the hunting strain is the one you want but if you live in the city you will want a slower strain known as show strain. If you are an apartment liver you might want another type of dog. They are a healthy strain that doesn't have any genetic disorders. Never overfeed these dogs, as they can easily gain weight.

An Englishman, Robert Brooke sailed to America in 1650 and brought his hunting dogs. George Washington had received some French Foxhounds from Lafayette. The American Foxhound was the result of breeding his dogs with those of Brooke. At first the dogs were used to hunt indians but later became hunters of wild animals and that is what they are still used for today.
