About the Bernese Mountain Dog.
This dog is a versatile cattle herding or farmdog originating in the canton or Berne, Switzerland. Berners (as they are often called) are outdoor dogs at heart, though well-behaved in the house, they need activity and exercise. They are affectionate, loyal, faithful, stable and intelligent. These dogs make wonderful family pets. They are trainable and have a stable temperment, patient and loving.

They may have hereditary diseases and inbreeding depression. They usually only live about 9 years.

The breed orginated in Swiss farm villages and used to herd cows, pull carts containing milk cans and a flock guardian.
