About the Chihuahua The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog and is named for a region in Mexico. They are prized for their devotion and personality but are not a dog for small children. They are good for both city and small apartments and usually have a long lifetime of 15 years. Even though people think they are yappy and fragile, but when trained correctly they make a good pet. A lot of dogs focus on one person to really love and give their devotion. They can be hard to house break. They are very bold and love attention. Chihuahuas are really curious and like to explore sights and smells of the outdoors. They are thought to be descendants of an ancient, similar, but slightly larger breed associated with royalty in Aztec civilizations known as the Techichi. They are the oldest canine breed in North America. They need vet attention in birthing and dental care. They can be prone to genetic anomalies such as seizure disorders and patella luxation.
