About the Great Dane Known as the "Gentile Giant", the Great Dane is a breed of dog with a large size and gentle personality. They are spirited, courageous, always friendly and dependable, never timit or aggressive. This is a smart, strong dog who is very protective and loyal to its owner. They train well and are fairly low maintenance. It is thought this dog originated from the larger German Bullengeisser dogs. The Bullenbeisser was used for hunting large wild boar.
