About the Pomeranian
Poms are a breed of dog in the spitz family and named for the Pomerania region of Poland and eastern Germany. They are classed as a toy dog breed.They average only 3 to 7 pounds.

The Pom is an active dog that is intelligent, courageous and loyal and makes a great companion. Due to its size they may not interact well with small children and can suffer abuse from children. They make excellent watchdogs and easily adapt to life in the city and also an excellent dog for country living.

The Pomeranian originated from sled dogs of Iceland and Lapland and then brought to Europe. The Germans improved the coat and bred them down for city living. They are small today due to selective breeding but remain hardy and have a thick coat typical of dogs in cold climates.
