About the Standard Schnauzer
The Standard is the original breed of the three sizes of Schnauzer. They are handsome, robust, squarely built, medium sized dog with aristocratic bearing. They are sociable, alert, a comedian, a formidable guard and a family companion. They learn fairly easily and have been used as retrievers both on land and in the water.

The Standard Schnauzer in general is a healthy breed and can live to 16 years. They originated in the Middle Ages in southern Germany and adjoining regions of France and Switzerland. They were bred for guard dogs and catching vermin.
